MY PLATE OF HAPPINESS

Happiness is a feeling of positive emotions, like joy, interest and pride and absence of negative emotions like sadness, anxiety and anger. Happiness is associated to life, satisfaction, appreciation and to those moments of positivity in life. A happy person does not encounter negative emotions because they process feelings in quite a different way not like others do. This implies that they are not naturally happy or that they are more blessed with positive and good things, rather like all they also have matters in life that can stress them.

IS IT TRUE BETIYAAN TOH PARAYA DHAN HOTI HAI IS IT TRUE BETIYAAN TOH PARAYA DHAN HOTI HAI

I have been an account student for more than five years and did my majors in this subject only. Also economics was my favorite subject. Thus a basic rule of the subject is that profit is what matters. It says that all investments should yield returns or you need not invest there. True any common person or uneducated person will also agree to these basic rules. As per the market trends you should invest in any investment or property or capital that yields good profit or belongs to you. All those investments that yield good and profitable results become hot cake and are appreciated by all. Isn’t that true? Where would you put your stake in your property or someone else’s property? I can see you nodding and thinking that am I crazy enough to state all this nonsense and ask such silly questions. You would say even a small kid can understand these basic rules and work accordingly.

All the above conversation is not useless all I want to prove is or state that the age old saying “betiyaan toh paraya dhan hoti hai.” Is either false or the laws of accounts or economics that run the world economy or the betel shop at the corner of your lane is false.

The answer is obvious you cannot dare to say that the laws of economics or accounts cannot be false. Then why are the daughters an exception? Starting with the birth of daughter let us travel the journey and try to visualize that is there any reason for her standing out of the common law? The mother endures the same pain as that of the son, or is there any concession when giving birth to daughters no or did the doctor or the hospital charged you a bit less while delivering the girl child as was so called paraya dhan. No luck, you feed your girl
child when she is hungry as you feed your boy child. Till now there was no difference so the time, money or resources invested is same. Lets not get in the love quotient as all child gets the same love from parents but daughters are more dear and near than the boys, all the love and pampering goes to them or lets say they have the upper hand here. I still remember the interview of David Beckham where he had tears in his eyes while discussing about his little angel. Getting to the education scenario girls or boys get the same education and for the same fees charged(we are not taking in to account those plans of government where to protect girl child or help her progress because of the society’s malpractices) As parents we try to give both our child similar opportunities.

Then why does a daughter stand to be “paraya” and your son be your own. I do not understand why eating at your girl child’s house after her marriage is not taken well or why does a daughter cannot take the responsibility of her parents and prove to a successful investment. A son is deemed to take responsibility of his parents even if does not want to do the same.

In an educated, civilized society if this attitude towards the female child does not end then at any point of time a lady will not get the love and respect that she deserves. We need to get in the gender equality society without any grudges in our mind. A son and daughter both should be your eyes. A daughter is never paraya she is all yours.

Christmas in India acquires distinct local flavours as regions weave in their own traditional customs.

It’s that magical time of the year – the aroma of freshly- baked plum cakes has begun to permeate the air, Church choirs are rehearsing their carols and children are drawing up their list of demands for Santa Claus, as Christmas trees and decorations glitter in the market. As the word celebrates Christmas on December 25, various regions in India also soak in the spirit of the festival and commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ in their own special way. Here are six among them.

KOLKATA
Park Street was the social and Christmas capital of the country till the 1960s. The Naxalite years and the economic decline under the Communists killed its vibrancy.Christmas decorations are sold in the center of New Market, an iconic Kolkata building.   The highlight of the Christmas Festival is getting cars off Park Street (officially, Mother Teresa Sarani). On the Sunday before Christmas, there’s a four-hour parade, led by schoolchildren. On Christmas Day itself, Park Street is out of bounds for cars for most of the day – from 2.00 pm to 10.00 pm.

KOCHI
In Kerala, Christmas is celebrated in the traditional way, with a dash of local flavour. Devotees gather in churches across the state for midnight mass. Several days prior to Christmas Eve, homes, shops, malls and offices are decorated with signature Christmas adornments, such as a crib, a traditional Christmas tree and stars of varying sizes and shapes. In the evenings, carol groups visit homes, a popular practice particularly in the countryside, where the groups are much larger. Come Christmas day, and a customary feast involving Friends and relatives takes centre stage. Among the most revered churches where Christmas is celebrated is the St Francis Church in Kochi, believed to be one of the oldest built by Europeans in India. It is also where Vasco da Gama was buried before his mortal remains were exhumed and taken back to Portugal.
CHENNAI
Tamil Nadu also celebrates Christmas with cheer. Churches are brightly decorated with lights and see large gathering for midnight mass. The Santhome Cathedral Basilica in Chennai, the capital, attracts a lot of visitors. The Church is built over the tomb of At Thomson, one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ.

GOA
Christmas celebrations in Goa go beyond the gates of the churches and spill over into the streets for everyone to enjoy and take part in. It is a time for merrymaking and exchanging gifts. Christmas in Goa is also about delicious cakes, puddings and delectable local dishes. Churches across Goa, such as the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Church of Our Lady of Rosary ( the oldest surviving Church in Goa) and Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, reverberate with hymns and prayers. Do not forget to visit the markets of Mapusa and Panaji for Christmas goodies.

SHIMLA
With of without snow, Christmas in Shimla is magical. Churches across the city, especially At Michael’s Cathedral and Christ Church, wear a festival look and have a steady line of visitors all day long. Church going crowds throng The Ridge and Mall Road to feast on special cakes and pastries baked for the occasion and ring in Christmas day with great fanfare.

SHILLONG
Christmas in Shillong comprises visiting friends and family to exchange greetings and sharing special festival delicacies. Families lay out a generous spread of dishes for visitors, the most popular being dohneiiong, a meat- based delight, and a traditional Christmas cake. Midnight mass sees the Cathedral Catholic Church filled to the doors while Christmas cheer resounds across the hills. Shillong boasts an egalitarian society, which is best reflected during Christmas day when people visit orphanages, old-age he’s and hospitals with food and gifts.

MOBILES THAT WERE A NUISANCE AT ONE POINT OF TIME ARE NOW A MIRACLE

What is unusual that you see a person without cell phone. Every single person has a cell phone be it the normal keypad phone or a smart phone of old or new model. These devices have completely changed our lives and the way we communicate. It presents us the easy modes to communicate that are cheap also. Sending text messages, reading emails, playing games, reading and editing documents all has become so easy and comfortable. It would not be an exaggeration to comment that if leave home without a wallet it is manageable but moving out without a cell phone is so difficult. Invention of cell phone is definitely the most phenomenal inventions of the modern age.

We all our addicted to the cell phone and any addiction is bad. Several researches have been conducted about the side effects of cell phone. They are blamed to hinder human relations. They reveal too much of information that can be harmful. They have ended being instruments of constant interruptions. There has been increase in accident cases due to the usage of cell phones. Memory and brain health is adversely affected by cell phone usage. The list goes on and on and all of adversities is listed on the cell phone. However there are certain things about the cell phone that in spite of being a nuisance we cannot do without them.

Getting to the importance of cell phone here area few points:

1] THEY MAKE COMMUNICATION WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES A LOT EASIER- Consider those old times when there was one telephone in the entire village how would you communicate with your loved ones. Moving ahead in time we reached the phase when there were cell phones in each house still if a family member was out communicating with them was difficult. Today once your loved one is out of your sight even miles away you can easily communicate with them. Be it bad weather or any worry you can easily connect to them with the help of this little master. Many of our worries gets sorted all because of this cell phone.

2] THEY COMBINE THE GOODNESS OF NUMEROUS USEFUL APPLICATION IN A SINGLE DEVICE: Think of the days when going for an outing you had to carry wallet full of cash in order to avoid any shortage, but with the fear of theft, a camera good music system, some books and magazines and buying the  newspaper on daily basis to keep yourself updated, a tour guide of the place still there were things like the daily news or release of new movie that you had to miss. Now when planning to travel all you need is a cell phone. It facilitates cashless economy, thus no need to carry so much of cash, apps to predict the weather, inform of the latest news or read books or still better watch the full movie. A mobile comprises of everything. Apps help to book hotels, read the news or search best locations or famous shops of the place. Is not this cool and money saving option.

3] USEFUL IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS- Cell phones do not provide any guarantee but they can be of immense help in situations of emergency. Suppose you see a lady who has met accident on the road all you need to do is use her cell phone and contact her family members. Without cell phone this situation would have been so difficult to handle. How to about the whereabouts of the person and how to proceed all this would have been so chaotic.

4]EASE YOUR WORK- Earlier to pay bills of electricity or phone or to book tickets you had stand in queue for such long hours and waste so much of time. There was a situation where you had gone out for your favorite blockbuster and in spit of standing in the line for an hour you could not get the tickets. Wastage of time and resources. With the cell phone you can pay your bills at a go and book the tickets from the comfort of your home. Easy and quick. Shop vegetables, groceries or even clothes from the comfort of your home from any country of your choice that too at the time you wish to do so.

I completely believe that it is one of the biggest boons that the world has ever seen. And all I can say is that haters will hate, so what is your take on this?

What is more fun being a child, teenage, married, grandparent?

Bhale cheen lo mujhse meri jawaani , magar mujhko lauta do bachchpan ka saawan….a beautiful song true for me word by word. You may be wondering and pondering why? I have done thesis on this topic and here are a few reasons for which I would like to get back to my childhood.

There is no denial to the fact that childhood is the best part of life for every human being. Childhood and innocence are synonyms. Not only the word innocence but fun at its peak and carefree life are also synonym to childhood.

Childhood is the best part of life when you are either the little man or little girl in your parents life. There is nothing that worries you, all you are concerned is about the celebrations of your birthday or attending your friend’s birthday or at the most planning celebrations of some festivals. You are never concerned of your future goals or what will I do tomorrow? It never concerns us what will happen if I do not wake up early tomorrow morning. The future has no important significance for us. All we are concerned is about present and what we are doing to day. Childhood phase sets us free from all the constraints of the real world. We do not have any responsibility on us.

My childhood was all the more special as I come from a joint family set up. With grand father who would shower the love of both grandmother and grand father on me( I did not have grandmother)on me, to uncles and aunts who would fulfill all my wishes. Most importantly bunch of kids as cousins who tend to be my best friends till date as we were the first friends for each other. Playing pranks on each other or gearing up for the celebrations of festivals, or taking permission from each other’s parents. We were totally partners in crime. Deciding the destination of picnic or setting up lottery for deciding the venue. Even we had a small democracy at our home and majority wins was the rule. Although it was simple as to get vote bribe would be two pieces of chocolate or a new eraser at most. All the childhood memories will forever stay close to our hearts and bring a smile on our face whenever we think about those good all days. You grow up amidst all love and care in the nut-shell. Nothing worries you.

Kids are considered as form of God on the Earth and my family truly believed in it. My whole family helped me in growing in to a better person but they instilled humility in me. Learning the basic values of sharing and compassion or listening to the stories of courage or righteous behavior from our grannies made my childhood so special.

If my one wish would be granted I would like to return back to my childhood and enjoy the games of snake and ladder, or dark room secret or just sail a boat in the rain, or just sit in the round table conference to discuss the most silly matter. My childhood was the golden period of my life and the childhood memories are a part of my heart that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Methi Paratha Recipe with Yummy Yummy Chutneys

I love fresh Methi or Fenugreek leaves.  Methi Paratha is an absolute favorite breakfast during winters at my home.  I mean come on do we Indian need be told about bow to make ‘parathas’, we’ve been making (or having) one or the other variety of Parathas for breakfast each day. Moreover after i learned the health benefits of methi leaves from my father, my fridge has a dedicated section for it. Basically it helps to control diabetes, cholesterol level, improves heart health and cures constipation and join pain.

Methi  paratha can be made easily. Bunches of fresh methi are very sandy and must be washed thoroughly under water before using them. Once cleaned – cut off the roots, separate the leaves and discard the stems. Combine coarsely chop methi leaves, with flours, spices and knead it into a soft pliable dough.

Step by Step Preparation
Ingredients
1) Methi Leaves
2) Aata
3) Besan
4) Ajwain
5) Lal Mirch
6) Salt
7) Butter

How to make it
Mix All Ingredients together. Slowly add water and start working on the dough. Do not pour all the water at once. You may need more or less water depending on how thick or liquidy your curd was. Once the dough starts to bind together add water very slowly. Finish the dough up by adding 1 tablespoon of oil and form it into a smooth round ball.

Dough is ready. Let’s begin rolling our parathas. Make golf size balls out of the kneaded dough. Roll them in dry wheat flour. Lay it flat on a platform. Before we start shaping the ball, heat a tawa or griddle over medium heat. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out into a larger circle.

Transfer rolled out paratha onto the heated griddle. Cook from one side and flip. Apply butter and using a spatula cook from that side. Flip and apply oil on the uncooked side, spread it over the paratha, press and cook until brown and fully cooked. Transfer it onto a plate and repeat the process with the remaining dough. Serve them hot with coriander chutney and Garlic chutney..

Tips
1) Firstly, to make soft paratha also add 3 tbsp of besan while preparing dough.
2)Methi paratha stays fresh for longer time when kneaded only with curd and not water.
3)Additionally add finely chopped onions and green chili, to make it more flavorful.
4)Finally, methi paratha is very healthy and good for digestion.
